DHS Issues Notice of Designation of E-Verify as System to Be Used by Federal Contractors

Effective immediately, Homeland Security has designated the E-Verify system as the only method approved for authenticating employment eligibility for Federal Contractors working within the U.S. This system is operated by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services in conjunction with the Social Security Administration.
This amended executive order 12989 was issued June 6, 2008.This order instructs all Federal departments and agencies that employ contractors to use the electronic employment eligibility verification system known as E-Verify. This extends to include all persons who are assigned to work for the Federal contractor within the U.S. on Federal Contracts.
This order was mandated by Michael Chertoff, Secretary of the DHS, as well as the Administrator of General Services and the Administrator of NASA.
