Dept. of State Issues Record Number of Visas to Students to Study in U.S.
Enrollment is up by those attending U.S. colleges from other countries. In fact, the number of foreign exchange and regular student visas issued by the DOS (Dept. of State) exceeded 651,000 in Fiscal Year 2007. That’s 10% over 2006 and 90,000 more than the previous record set in 2001.
Marking the International Education Week of 2007 as reason to cheer, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said, “In this celebration of international education and exchange, the U.S. Department of State joins with the U.S. Department of Education to highlight the critical role of education in our efforts to secure a bright future based on international partnership and understanding.”
In an effort to continue this partnership in International Education, U.S. Embassies around the globe regularly meet with students wishing to further their education in America. During special events at college campuses in other countries, all the visa requirements and opportunities are explained to them to ease the process of attending schools in the U.S. As a result, the United States is becoming a destination of choice when it comes to higher education.
