More Information from USCIS Regarding Security Check Changes

(07/29/08)

When it comes to security checks, there is currently a backlog. In a cooperative effort by CIS (Citizenship and Immigration Services) and the FBI, the process of checking names to verify them for immigration purpose, is a slow one.

To speed up the process, they are using two strategies. First CIS and FBI are now joining forces allowing them to concentrate on those cases of most concern. Secondly, an additional $15.5 million has been committed to the effort to clear the backlog.

However, regardless of the time it may take to process these cases, none will be approved without being cleared by the FBI and CIS first. And while continued efforts are being made to streamline the operation, national security and public safely will never be compromised.
